Spring 2010 – LibGuides platform launched; Kindle Reader available for loan; IDS Search launched

Milne Library’s [online] research guides are now easier to use and are packed with more resources and multimedia content.

Librarians worked over the winter break to implement LibGuides, a new system that connects users to important resources. LibGuides makes it easy for librarians to create subject and class-related guides and to incorporate a wider array of content, including images, video and RSS feeds. The new pages replace the Resources by Subject pages previously used to help identify scholarly and other research materials.”

Additionally:

  • “Milne Library has recently purchased a Kindle, Amazon’s electronic book reader, to evaluate its potential utility as a tool for providing library materials….Milne’s Kindle, loaded with about a dozen titles, is available for 4-hour loan to anyone interested in trying it out.”
  • IDS Search engine  in the Quicksearch box of the Library Homepage “allows users to search for books and media in Milne, in IDS Project libraries (delivery in less than 3 days) or in libraries around the world (delivery in 7 to 10 business days).”
