Milne Library Infobits Fall 2004

Fall 2004 – Automating process of generating and tracking orders for books and media; Genesis of the IDS Project (Interlibrary Loan done smarter)

Conversion of order records from paper slips and Excel files into the more unified Aleph 500 system (better known in its public “dress” as GLOCAT).

Genesis of the IDS Project:

“Milne Library, together with twelve other SUNY 4-year college libraries, has undertaken a pilot project exploring resource-sharing methods that could unify these currently separate collections.  The libraries, working in a highly interdependent mode, are striving to better meet the information resources needs of students and faculty on each campus.  This is Interlibrary Loan done smarter.

On August 11, 2004 Milne’s IDS (Information Delivery Services) Department hosted a conference in which 65 participants representing the 13 campuses bounced ideas back and forth in an effort to provide insight into the development of a highly efficient, high-quality method of sharing resources, with a commitment to prioritizing amongst these particular college libraries.  ” – Milne Library Infobits Newsletter, Fall 2004
