Minolta MS 6000 model Microfilm/fiche scanner

2006 – News from Milne Library IT: Microfiche Scanner, Accessibility Workstation available; ILLiad (IDS software) upgrades

From the Milne Library Infobits Newsletter, Spring 2006:

The microfilm/fiche scanner (Minolta MS 6000 model), located in front of the Serials Office on Milne Library’s Lower Level, allows users to scan articles or pages from microfilm and microfiche.  Using the dedicated PC next to the scanner, the images can be manipulated and saved on the “Files” server space or on removable media such as a USB drive or CD-R, in either PDF or TIFF format.  Easy-to-follow instructions for using the scanner are kept next to the equipment, and Milne Library’s Tech Help is always available …

In addition to the Accessibility Station located in Milne Library, users now have campus-wide access to a suite of programs from Premier Assistive Technologies.  These programs, which include a screen reader, talking word processor and a scanner-and-reader, were made available to the campus through a grant received by the Office of Disability Services.  For more information and training videos, please go to http://www. reading mad eez. com/  Videos.php or stop by the Library or the Office of Disability Services.

In November, Milne Library upgraded ILLiad, its IDS Software, to version 7.2. This new version includes an updated website to match the current IDS webpage, plus several new enhancements.  Many of these enhancements are “behind the scenes” and are designed to improve the speed at which users receive their requested books, CDs, DVDs and articles.  One very visible enhancement, however, is the RSS feed option which allows users to receive notification when items have arrived.  Anyone with any questions or comments concerning the new ILLiad version may send them to ill@geneseo.edu.”
