2006 – Milne Library Website Redesign, with QuickSearch, News Articles, and more

“College Libraries Website” is now the Milne Library Website.    There are many new features, including:   a colorful 3 column redesign; news article links fed via RSS from a WordPress site;  dropdown menus;   the first appearance of the Quicksearch widget, and IDS/ILLiad.

Time travel trivia: The present day WordPress feed updates correctly in this archived version of the website, and the Date/Time feature reflects the date and time the screenshot of the archived site.  Image credit: https://web.archive.org/web/20070905201815/http://library.geneseo.edu/

From the Milne Library Infobits Newsletter,  2006:

New Website

After several months of planning and construction, the new Milne Library website was unveiled to the public on Friday, August 4th, 2006.  A web development team began planning in the Fall of 2005 to design and implement a new site which would incorporate more dynamic features, an updated look, and better organization and navigation for users.  A true redesign of the site had not been attempted in almost six years, so the time had come for a change!

Some new features of the website include:

  • A QuickSearch box on the front page which allows users to directly search commonly used tools such as GLOCAT and ERes.
  • A new Check My Library Account option, providing quick and easy access to personal library information.
  • A vastly improved database page, called Resources by Subject, allowing for better access to the library’s databases and other online resources.
  • Library RSS feeds and a Library blog to provide the latest information about library news, acquisitions and events.
  • A new online gallery of photos, featuring library events, new classrooms, exhibits, and more.

A Library Open House on September 21st celebrated the arrival of Milne’s new public interface with food, prizes, entertainment and the opportunity for the public to provide feedback to the library regarding the site.
